<biogHist>
1890 - 1894 Anvers, Marché aux Souliers, 37
° 15.8.1852. Domiciled in Brussels in 1890 and registered as a business clerk. Employee of G. Zazzarini & Co. Does not appear in the ABP membership lists between 1895 and 1897 when he left for Moscow to work as a print dealer with his brother Emiliano. A certain B. Avanzo operated a portrait studio in Moscow so it is possible they were working together at this time.
1898 - 1914 > Bruxelles, Marché aux Herbes, 86
Predecessor: Gecele Vve Sebastiano & Tessaro
Arrived in Brussels from Moscow on 7.1.1897. Representative of the Gecele studio, then successor to Veuve S. Gecele in 1909: in 1913, still described as the "former Gecele studio". Supplies for photographers and cameras; also dealer in photographs. Active member of the ABP Brussels section where he distributed samples for testing, for instance "Phébus" brand developer on 19.2.1900. There is a sample album of coloured carbon prints manufectured by Illingworth & Co. and sold by Avanzo in the holdings of "Musées royaux d'Art et d'Histoire" in Brussels.
Member of the "Club d’amateurs photographes de Belgique". Listed at this address in 1922 as a member of the ABP and of the "Cercle d'Art Photographique". Still trading at this address as "Avanzo Frères & Soeur, succ. Denis Avanzo" in 1935-1938 and "Maison D. Avanzo" in 1939; the business was run by two nephews until the late 1950s.
</biogHist>
