<b>1890 - 1914 > Gand</b> ° 31.3.1852; + 15.12.1925. Doctor of Law, industrialist. He joined the family textile business in 1873. In 1877, he became a member of the "Gilde de Saint-Thomas et Saint-Luc", a catholic organisation which stood for the Gothic revival in architecture. During the 1890s on behalf of this guild, Casier carried out archeological research, organised trips and took photographs of religious architecture in Antwerp, Bruges, Lier, Maastricht, Rouen, Bourges, and Lincoln. In 1895, he took over the stained-glass window workshop founded by Baron Jean de Béthune in 1855 and revived its fortunes. President of the ABP from 1895 until 1904 (with the interlude of Massange de Louvrex in 1901). In November 1895 he presided over the first demonstration of cinematography in Belgium, given by the Lumière brothers’ operator. In 1898, he published "En Normandie", an album of 45 halftone prints from photographs taken during a journey in 1895. On 13.2.1899, he requested authorisation to photograph Memling’s works in Bruges on behalf of the "Société Anonyme de l'Edition Artistique" in Paris (Gautier process). President-General of the International Exhibition of Ghent in 1913 and instrumental in the creation and success of an autonomous "Salon International d’Art Photographique" within the Pavilion of Fine Arts. Named honorary member of the ABP on 30.11.1913. Committee member of the ABP in 1920 and 1921.
