<b>1893 * - 1914 Bruxelles - Ixelles, Chaussée de Wavre, 28 (premises and laboratories)</b> One of the most active of the autonomous local photography clubs that sprang up in Belgium in the two decades preceding World War I. Founded on 5.10.1893. "A club, recruiting exclusively amongst amateurs, has just been founded in Ixelles... Amateur photographers from Ixelles and the Brussels agglomeration can join the "Cercle" for a membership fee of 6 frs" (Hélios illustré, 15.12.1893). Founding president: Louis Stainier; founding secretary: Gabriel Verburgh. In 1895 still, President: Louis Stainier; secretary: Gabriel Verburgh. From 1896 to 1904, President: René Mathy (although another source records him as having resigned in 1903). In 1904, secretaries: E. Strebelle and H. Van den Putte. In 1905, President: Florian Deppe; vice-president: Edmond Casaer; secretaries: M. Ledreux and L. Storck; deputy secretary: J. Francx; treasurer: E. Demanet. In 1906, President: Florian Deppe; vice-presidents: Edmond Casaer and C. Colbrant or J. Taverne; secretary: Loots; deputy secretary: Boselt; treasurer: E. Demanet. In 1909 and 1911, President: J. Walleghem. 86 members recorded in 1904, 64 in 1906, 57 in 1908 and 59 in 1911. The club held an annual public exhibition beginning in 1895 until at least its eighteenth edition in 1913. It would appear to be the only Belgian club except for the "Association belge de Photographie" to send a delegate, its secretary Maurice Ledreux, to the "Congrès international de photographie" that opened in Liège on 16.7.1905. Around 1922, merged with the "Club d'Amateurs Photographes de Belgique" to form the "Cercle d'Art Photographique de Bruxelles".
