      <biogHist><p>&lt;b&gt;1894 Anvers&lt;/b&gt;
Helena Ludovica Mathildis Alexandrina, ° 7.2.1864; + 9.10.1949. Writer, traveller, watercolour artist. A nurse by training, she developed an interest in anthropology. De Harven travelled around Canada from August to December 1891 to study native tribes, a trip that furnished material for many lantern-slide talks, such as "The Last Redskins" at the "Société royale belge de Géographie" on 7.11.1907. Credited with a photograph taken at the Antwerp "Exposition Universelle" published in a collotype album under Joseph Maes' imprint. A souvenir display of the section "Vieil-Anvers" included 34 prints attributed to C. &amp; H. de Harven. De Harven Frères were awarded 7th prize in the photography competition run by the 1894 exhibition’s organisers. Note that when Jean Damoizeau came to demonstrate his "Cyclographe" at Louis Van Neck's place on 9.9.1891, one of the attendees was an amateur-photographer named "Deharvan" (Hélios Illustré, 15.9.1891).</p></biogHist>
