      <biogHist><p>&lt;b&gt;1853 */ Mons, Rue de Nimy (Hôtel du Cerf)&lt;/b&gt;
° 30.9.1809; 11.2.1889. Mechanic and lamp-maker."On my arrival in Mons, fixed for 1st July, I will visit those persons […] desirous of having themselves photographed" (Gazette de Mons, 29.5.1853). Patent of 31.3.1853 for "a physioscope: an optical apparatus for making objects appear in relief". The Journal de Gand, 24.3.1858, contains an article on "Donat, artist", who had invented the physioscope, an improvement of the stereoscope. By 1860 Donas had moved to Paris, initially as a partner of Félix Ledot, then by 1862 he was operating in collaboration with his daughter in Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré, 155. In 1863 he created the company Donas &amp; Cie, which operated in Rue des Ecuries d'Artois, 34 in 1864-1865. J.B. Donas subsequently operated in Paris, Rue Fondary, 15 from 1868 to 1870. His death certificate records him as not having a profession. A certain "François" Joseph Antoine Donas (º Antwerp, 3.4.1813) was recorded as a photographer resident in Brussels in June 1860 and in Brussels - Ixelles in August 1861.</p></biogHist>
