Studied chemistry and natural sciences at the Polytechnic of Zurich and at the University of Jena. He was a cellist as well. Arrived from Zurich on 9.6.1874. Member of the ABP from 10.11.1874 ("Rue de l'Ecuyer"). Registered in Rue de l'Ecuyer, 38 from 26.5.1876, but the above address still appears in the Tarlier directory for 1878. According to an obituary notice (Bulletin de l'ABP, 1892, pp. 172-173), he founded the studio in 1873. 1874 * - 1891 / Bruxelles, Rue de l'Ecuyer, 38 renumbered 56<5.9.90> Predecessor: Cornelisse or Cornelissen Pierre-Jean Lived at this address from 26.5.1876 until 2.7.1891. "Branch in Zurich, Bahnhofstrasse, 40" around 1874, referring to his father’s studio opened in 1868. On CV, "Medal in Berlin in 1865". CAB for the Zurich studio with a backmark featuring eight medals and awards and the statement "Branch in Brussels, Rue de l’Ecuyer, 38". 1891 * - 1895 / Bruxelles, Rue Royale, 65, near the "Colonne du Congrès" Arrived on 2.7.1891. Recorded as a photographer living at this address at his time of death. His brother Rudolf Ganz (° Zurich [CH], 3.8.1848; + Zurich [CH], 24.2.1928) signed as a witness on his death certificate and was recorded as a photographer domiciled in Zurich [CH]. After the death of Julien Ganz, the studio continued under the name "Maison Julien Ganz" until 1895, latterly at Brussels - Schaerbeek, Rue Rogier, 278 (see entry for Edwin Ganz). Cameras and studio equipment were sold off along with Ganz's art and book collections at auction in Brussels on 9.4.1895.
