<biogHist>
1893 / Liège, Boulevard d'Avroy, 36
Gustave Joseph Léopold, ° 8.6.1870; + 28.3.1917. At his wedding in Helchteren (Limburg) on 28.3.1894 to Betzie Delée (see separate entry), Ghuys was recorded as a photographer and tradesman living in Hasselt.
1895 - 1896 Hasselt, Rue de la Chapelle, 37
Predecessor: Ghuys [G.] & Eggert
Ghuys was recorded as a photographer living in Rue de la Chapelle on the occasion of the birth of a son in Hasselt on 15.12.1895.
1896 * - 1900 ca Saint-Trond, Rue de la Station, 4<96>
Moved to Saint-Trond on 14.11.1896 with his family. The Saint-Trond address was already operational and being advertised as a branch of the Hasselt studio several months previously: "Studio open every day from 3 to 6 in the afternoon; on Sunday from 10 in the morning to 6 in the evening" (Gazette van Sint-Truiden, 4.4.1896). On CV, "Gustav", c. 1900.
1900 * Hasselt, Marché au Bois, 7 [Houtmarkt]
Predecessor: Gliot Emile
Arrived at this address from Saint-Trond with his family on 26.5.1900. At the birth of a daughter in Hasselt on 29.10.1901, Ghuys was recorded as a photographer living in Hasselt, Havermarkt but we have not been able to link this address to photographic activity during this period.
1900 ca Saint-Trond, Thienschepoort, 26
Coincided with Hasselt, Marché au Bois, 7. In fact, following Ghuys' return to Hasselt, a Saint-Trond studio (no identifying street address) continued to operate for several years, as attested by advertising postcards, c. 1904, for "G. Ghuys, photographer, Hasselt - St Trond".
1902 - 1910 Hasselt, Rue de la Chapelle, 37<05 ca>
Registered at Houtmarkt, 7, until moving to Havermarkt, 41 in March 1904. Some photographs signed Ghuys - Delée and others with no street address. On CV in Hasselt, "Gustave Ghuys and his sister". In 1903, edited a monthly magazine "La Réclame philatélique et cartophile" for stamp and postcard collectors. Published a series of picture postcards on Hasselt bearing the signature "G. Ghuys - Delée". In 1907, Ghuys opened a bicycle shop in Hasselt, Havermarkt, 41 (branch in Saint-Trond, Nieuwe Steenweg) but continued to operate as a photographer. On his death certificate, Ghuys was recorded as a phototographer and tradesman living at Havermarkt, 24. His sons "Victor" Gustave Marie (° Hasselt, 14.12.1895) and "Albert" Marie Jean (° Sint-Truiden, 27.8.1897) were dealing in photographic supplies at that address in January 1917 as "V. & A. Ghuys, Comptoir Photographique du Limbourg". As early as 1914, they also sold bicycles there. Ghuys' widow was involved in running the bicycle shop until 1927.
1907 Bruxelles, Rue du Midi, 114
Short-lived outlet supplying picture postcards and stamps for collectors.
</biogHist>
