<biogHist>
1866 - 1870 / Bruxelles, Rue Saint-Michel, 10
Jean Théodore, ° 26.7.1843; + 25.12.1882. Born of a Prussian father. Journeyman upholsterer in his youth. Already recorded as a photographer in August 1864. In 1866 he featured in the population registry at this address as a photographer. He left this address on 4.3.1870. Series of photographs recording the transformation of the city of Brussels from 1869. See also Anonymous [12]. There is no trace of any official financing for a photographic mission but the series must have commissioned by the company in charge of the work. Subsequently, Kämpfe styled himself in advertisements as photographer of the "Compagnie des travaux de la Senne". CV ink-stamped "J. KAMPFE, PH.".
1870 * - 1871 / Bruxelles, Rue de Flandre, 90
At this address from 4.3.1870 until 1.6.1871.
1871 * - 1879 / Bruxelles, Quai aux Barques, 16 renumbered 8
At this address (near the Marché aux Porcs) from 1.6.1871 until 6.1.1879. Photographed the building site at the Porte de Ninove in 1872. From 1879 until 1882, several changes of domicile seem to point to professional problems. Perhaps he abandoned photography upon his departure from the Quai aux Barques, because his name no longer appears in later directories. He died in Rue de Flandre, 152, where he had lived since 1.3.1882.
</biogHist>
