<b>1866 - 1906 Roulers, Rue des Arts<70-06></b> ° 26.4.1842; + 23.1.1923. Photographer, painter and draughtsman. Studio operated in parallel with Pieters’ occupation of drawing master at the municipal academy of fine arts. When the parish priest in Roulers referred Pieters up the ecclesiastical hierarchy in 1866 for taking photographs on the Lord’s day, the Bishop of Bruges acquitted himself with the wisdom of Solomon: "The single action of capturing somebody's features by means of photography and verifying that the print has been successful does not appear to be an act forbidden on Sundays and holy days. Unlike printing positives, a purely material action." "Pieters, G. & C." in 1870. On CV 1895 ca: "Oogenblikkelyke lichtprinte" [instant print]. Suffix "& Fils" or in plural "en zoons" in c. 1905, a partnership undoubtedly including his son Alphonse (see that name). <b>1895 ca - 1914 ca Roulers, Wapenplaats, 6<95ca-04> or 14<08ca-14ca></b> On CV, "Oogenblikkelyke lichtprinte / photographie instantanée". On prints at no. 14, "Well known firm since 1864". Pieters (no forename) was active at no. 14 around 1914 and G. Pieters at the same address into the 1920s.
