Successor: Deton - Cornand
Jean François, ° 31.10.1869. Specialised in enlargements. "Roman, F." in the directory. Already recorded as a photographer resident in Lille [F], Rue Nationale at the occasion of his wedding in Lille [F] to Clémentine Clits (° Grivegnée, 4.8.1873; + ?, 1954) on 24.1.1891. According to his marriage certificate, he had arrived at this address in Lille [F] 18 months previously. It is unclear whether or not there is a link with the Deton family, who were active in the Rue Nationale at that time and were his successors in Namur.
1896 - 1898 / Wetteren, Rue de l'Eglise
1898 * - 1900 / Gand, Rue de Flandre, 11<98> then 24<99-00>
Successor: Buyle & Lahmer
On CV, "Painter and draughtsman". Already recorded as a photographer resident in Ghent, Kerkstraat [Rue de l'Eglise] in May 1895 at the birth of a son in Ghent. Subsequently recorded as a photographer in Ghent, Rue de Flandre at the birth of another son in March 1898. Left for Ghent - Ledeberg, Rue Neuve, 31 on 26.10.1900. Note that Paul Marie Berg (° Saarburg [D], 17.7.1876) was recorded as a journeyman photographer at this address from 27.8.1897 and was removed from the population register on 2.5.1899, supposedly having left on 21.11.1898.
1901 - 1906 La Louvière, Rue du Commerce, 68
Sentenced to six months in prison by the criminal court in Mons in January 1910 when described as a "former photographer in La Louvière". In the interwar years, Roman operated in Ghent at Rue des Champs, 10. His daughter resided at that address when she got married in January 1922.
</biogHist>
