Predecessor: Simonau &amp; Toovey Successor: Leys Henri
Following Gustave Simonau's death in July 1870, his surviving partner ensured continuity of operations: "A false rumour has been circulating that the leading lithographic establishment directed by Mr Simonau is closing. Mr Toovey, the artist's associate for 21 years, is maintaining management of the studio, in his double capacity as partner and representative of Mr Simonau's widow" (L'Indépendance Belge, 6.8.1870).
Initially, the firm continued to offer the full range of printing processes. However, following the departure of William Toovey between 1870 and 1873, the photomechanical side of the business was somewhat neglected. No Woodburytypes are known after 1873. Simonau's widow, Ann(e) Toovey (° Canterbury [GB], 13.6.1820; ° ? [GB], 1895), left for Brussels - Saint-Josse on 25.6.1877, where she was registered as a lithographer.</p></biogHist>
