<b>1870 ca Gand & Bruges</b> London-based photographer, lecturer and art critic. His photographic oeuvre included extensive documentation of the British Museum collections and several photographically illustrated books published in the 1870s. A series of stereo views from a campaign in Belgium and Normandy includes sights in Ghent. The gift book "Treasure Spots of the World. A Selection of the Chief Beauties and Wonders of Nature and Art" edited by Walter B. Woodbury (1875) contains 28 Woodburytypes including Thompson's study of 'The Belfry at Bruges'.
