<b>1847 Marchienne-au-Pont</b> Modeste Constant Frédéric Gérard Joseph, ° 4.2.1820; + 15.4.1882. Daguerreotypist. Modeste Winandy, who was an artillery soldier at the age of 16, was a figurist painter domiciled in Liège, Degrés Saint-Pierre, 3, in 1844. As an itinerant he took two daguerreotypes in Marchienne-au-Pont on 20.12.1847, the back of which he signed "Winandy, artiste". He was removed from the Liège population registry on 27.5.1849. <b>1849 - 1851 Anvers - Berchem, no. 478</b> He placed an advertisement in the "Postrÿder van Antwerpen" on 7.8.1849. Quarter-plate daguerreotypes "Winandy, artiste" were produced at this address, one of which is dated 10.2.1851, and others dated October 1851. <b>1853 - 1854 Namur - Jambes, Faubourg de Jambes, (former Rosier's premises)</b> In December 1853 at this address. His elder son Modeste was born here on 17.9.1854. <b>1856 Namur, Rue Bas de la Place, 921</b> From January until March. "Stereoscopy, photography, daguerreotype [...] on the premises of Mr Wilkens, merchant. He invites gentlemen amateurs to come to view on his premises his stereoscopic portraits, which appear to be life size and moulded [three-dimensional]; the illusion is complete. Views and monuments of Paris and the interior of the Paris [international] exhibition from 1 fr. 50" (Ami de l'Ordre, 14.1.1856). <b>1858 - 1862 Liège, Rue de la Cathédrale, 46</b> "Winandy Modeste, bachelor, age 32 years [sic], Artist Photographer" entered in the population registry 1859-1862 with no dates of arrival or departure. "Portaits Photolithography [sic]. New process on paper, with no retouching" (La Meuse, 18.5.1858). <b>1856 - 1866 Charleroi - Dampremy, (former premises of Gérard Moreaux)</b> "Stereoscopic portraits. Photography and Daguerreotype" (Journal de Charleroi, 9.7.1856). He later published an advertisement in the "Union de Charleroi" on 5.9.1860. Winandy received a national medal for his bravery and selflessness in fighting a fire that broke out in a steam-powered mill in Dampremy on 16.8.1859. He was again in Charleroi - Dampremy with no street address in 1866. Recorded as an artist-painter living in Brussels - Ixelles, Rue de la Croix, 33 in August 1877.
