Willem Karel Leo Octaaf, ° 3.2.1891; + 11.9.1941. Founder member of "Ecole de Photographie" in 1912 and treasurer of said club until 1916. Became Gustave Verhulst's (see that name) brother-in-law in 1920. The second prize winner in the third competition organised by the periodical "La Photo" in 1912 was "G. De Backer" from Ghent (La Photo, 25.6.1912). The initial "G" might well have stood for Guillaume, which is the French form of Willem. Still listed as a member of "Lux Nova" in the "Annuaire de la Photographie" of 1922.
