Predecessor: Schaffers Nestor
° 3.12.1844; + 12.10.1904. Sometimes written Allterman. Already recorded as a photographer domiciled in Ghent at the occasion of his wedding in Sint-Denijs-Westrem on 25.6.1884.
1898 - 1904 + Gand, Rue de Courtrai, 64
Successor: Aelterman Veuve
Aelterman initially used Nestor Schaffers' overstamped mounts at this address and continously described himself as his successor. His death certificate records him as a photographer domiciled in this street. According to a newspaper report, Aelterman had been struggling with suicidal thoughts and had tried taking his own life on multiple occasions, specifically by drowning and by shooting himself. After these unsuccessful attempts, he was admitted to the Dr. Guislain psychiatric hospital. When released to spend a week with his family, Aelterman committed suicide by hanging (L'Etoile belge, 14.10.1904).
