Captain in the Engineering Corps; captain-commander from 21.7.1889; commander in the Engineering Corps in Bruges from 29.3.1890; major from 27.6.1897; lieutenant-colonel from 25.3.1903. Patent of 30.6.1877 for "a photo-telegraphic camera" (optical apparatus not using photography). Described as the president of an otherwise undocumented group, "Association des photographes amateurs d'Anvers", in a report on the upcoming "Exposition de photographies industrielles", organised in Louvain in 1888 (La Réforme, 1.9.1888). Algrain gave a talk on photography to the "Excelsior" literary circle in Bruges in December 1890 and displayed his photographic work at the same club in February 1892. First president of the "Cercle photographique de Bruges" from its foundation in February 1892.
1894 - 1897 Bruges
Resident in Bruges from February 1894 to July 1897 when he left for Liège. At this point, Algrain resigned the presidency of the "Cercle photographique de Bruges" and was appointed its honorary president until at least 1908. Algrain was still living in Liège in May 1905 but no trace has been found of photographic activity there nor in Vilvoorde, where he was resident in February 1911.
