° 23.5.1795; + 12.5.1860. Calotypist. Architect, best known for the Palace of Westminster (British houses of parliament). When travelling through Belgium as a tourist, he encountered fellow calotypist John Muir Wood (see that name) in Ghent on 30.7.1847. Muir Wood confided in his diary that Barry’s negatives were "sharp but bad in colour & would not print out well". Founder member of the Architectural Photographic Association in 1857. Buried in Westminster Abbey.
