The firm of "Edmond Bastijns & Cie" was founded in Antwerp on 1.3.1902 for a period of 10 years, for the purpose of "trading in chemical products and the sale and purchase of photographic cameras". Shareholders were Bastyns himself, described as a druggist, Auguste Demblon, an electrician and Franz Willems, a clerk (see those names). Member of the photography section of the "Katholieke Kring" in 1900-1907 ("Bastijns", no initial). Prize winner in a photography competition organised the "Societe Royale Nautique Anversoise" in 1903 (Le Matin, 2.11.1903). An adept of the autochrome process, Bastyns invented a trichromatic camera in 1908. Collaborated with Joseph Sury (see that name) to commercialize their joint patents for colour photography, 1908-1911. Photographs published in "Le National Illustré" in 1907 and 1909. Although Leopold Marinus was already advertising as his successor in August 1914, Bastyns was still listed in the Ratinckx directory at this address until at least 1922. An obituary referred to him as a former employee of the Gevaert company.
