François Pierre Joseph, ° 10.2.1879; + 5.9.1950. Surname often spelt "Baetens". At his wedding in Malines on 29.11.1902, recorded as a photographer domiciled in Brussels - Ixelles, Rue Wayenberg, 85. At the birth of a child in Mechelen in April 1906, he was recorded as a photographer resident in Brussels - Etterbeek, Rue Louis Hap, 224. Batens had links to Mol which he visited as an itinerant on at least three occasions, the first time in May 1905 ("Baetens"). Thereafter Batens' pupil Jules Havermans (see that name) in Mol reported Batens' impending arrival there on 2.5.1908 and again, coming from Brussels, on 26.3.1911. Postcards postmarked 1912 bear the credit "Collotype F. Baetens, La Hulpe" with no street address.

Operated at no. 264 in 1916, at which address a certain A. Batens was listed, 1920-1923. A picture postcard signed François Batens dated 2.9.1924 has a backstamp with the address Brussels - Ixelles, Rue Wayenberg, 85 where he was listed from 1926 until 1946. Note that Batens had been domiciled there, his parental home, in 1902 as well.
