Activity
1880 - 1881 Anvers, Rue Dambrugge, 28/37 then 98 (same building)
Henri Louis Philippe, ° 10.6.1856. At Indenklef’s studio. Arrived from Cologne [D] on 15.6.1880 and returned there on 30.9.1880. Another short visit in 1881, before settling permanently in Belgium in 1885. Married Caroline Dispa (° Vilvoorde, 7.2.1840) in Ghent in 1894. Becker went on to create a multiple-branch business, in particular by deploying members of his immediate family: his wife, daughter and step-son.
1895 - 1911 Anvers, Rue des Arquebusiers, 20
This is the only address, c. 1896. Frédéric Gustave Schrader (see that name) was an operator at this address in 1902. Still listed here in Monod directory, 1913. However, Becker had changed domicile from this address to Brussels, Place de la Chapelle, 14, a studio in the name of his step-son Théodore Dispa, in 1911.
1897 - 1902 Anvers, Rue Leys, 2
Predecessor: Kiefer A.
Main studio.
1900 - 1914 Bruxelles - Molenbeek, Place Communale, 27<00-03>, 9<04-08> then 10<09-14>
Successor: Dispa Th. # (at n° 9) or Becker M. #
Caroline Dispa and her daughter Marthe moved here from Ghent in 1905 to run this studio. CVs exist with no. 9 overprinted with 10 while coinciding with the studios in Alost and Turnhout, perhaps indicating an earlier or temporary move.
1900 - 1909 Gand, Rue du Nord, 19<00-09> or 5
Studio opened after Brussels - Molenbeek, Place Communale, and Antwerp, Rue des Arquebusiers (these two coexist, then all three). CV at no. 5 ink-stamped "Paul Rupf successor", c. 1904. This must have been an unsuccessful transfer attempt that was rapidly dropped. Also see the interlude at no. 19 of J. Dispa in 1904-1905 and Bernard Willemsen in 1906, according to the trade directories.
1904 - 1906 Alost, Place Impériale, 40
Becker rented here until April 1906.
1905 - 1907 Turnhout, Rue des Pères, 11 [Paterstraat]
With the opening of this studio, Becker's business briefly extended to its maximum of five branches.
