Charles Auguste, ° 21.5.1860; + June 1935. Mechanical engineer. Initial "N" in an advertisement in August 1891 (Hélios Illustré, 1.8.1891). Cameras and wholesale photographic supplies in conjunction with his relative Hubert. Delayed action and instantaneous shutters, hand-held cameras, etc. Patent of 16.8.1889 and patent relating to improvements of 31.5.1890 for "a new instantaneous shutter with adjustable exposure time designed for photographic cameras". Patent of 15.7.1890 and patents relating to improvements of 17.12.1890 and 15.3.1893 for "an automatic shutter with double shutter segments working pneumatically and without presetting". Patent of 15.12.1892 for "improvements to plates in hand cameras". Built the "Photo-Simplex" hand camera with plateholder, 1892; "Le Constant" nickel shutter, 1893; "Le Bijou" (delayed exposure or instant exposure at 1/150th of a second), 1893. Also traded in Paris [F], Passage Guénot, 2 in 1893-1895.
Pioneering film exhibitor in the late 1890s and then cinematographer, making newsreels and 11 fictional shorts between November 1904 and 1906. Member of the "Photo-Club de Schaerbeek" listed in Brussels - Schaerbeek, Chaussée de Haecht, 115 (no forename) in 1903. No. 24 is the only street number in Rue du Poinçon recorded in the ABP membership lists. Letterhead "Ch. Belot, speaking machines", Rue du Poinçon, 24 & Passage des Postes, 6. At his wedding in Brussels on 21.6.1905, recorded as an industrialist living in Rue Sallaert, 19.
Still a member of the ABP in 1922. Although listed under photographic supplies from 1921 to 1925, Belot’s main post World War I activities would appear to be related to cinematography and film distribution.
