Félicien Joseph, ° 31.12.1862; + 7.11.1946. Lieutenant in the Gendarmerie, rising to commander during this period. Constructed and patented a reflex camera with bellows branded "Giorno" in 1904 (French patent registered 24.12.1904). Committee member, subsequently ordinary member, of the "Cercle photographique d'Ixelles". Gave a talk to the "Cercle Africain" on the royal greenhouses at Laeken, illustrated with autochromes (Le Soir, 27.6.1914). Reproductions of these autochromes are included in the 1920 publication "Les Serres Royales de Laeken" by Charles De Bosschere. Pursued his military career, often in appointments close to the royal household; promoted Colonel in 1920. Listed as a member of the "Cercle d'Art Photographique" in 1922. Blanpain's collection of Old Master paintings was dispersed after his death at auction in Brussels on 27.1.1947.
