° 1.5.1838; + 7.9.1910. Person of private means who is reported to have squandered his inheritance. Member of the ABP from 12.1.1875 ("Boemans, Liège"). Perhaps considerations other than the mere proximity of Maastricht [NL] to Belgium encouraged this leading Dutch amateur to take up and maintain membership of the ABP. "Our compatriot Mr M. Boumans, one of the few amateur photographers to primarily emphasize the artistic value of their picture taking..." (Natuur en mensch, vol. 9, 1889, p. 361). First president and co-founder of the "Maastrichtsche Amateur Fotographen Vereeniging" in 1893. Moved from Maastricht to Liège on 16.5.1898.
