Activity
1897 * - 1912 Bruxelles, Rue de la Madeleine, 79 or 69<11-12>
Predecessor: Brand Frères
° 2.3.1867. Spelled "Bran" in the population registers. Son of Joseph Brand and grandson of Marc Brand, and therefore a member of the third generation of this family of opticians and pioneering photographers. Cameras and supplies. "On the corrner of Rue Saint-Jean". Arrived from Rue Saint-Jean, 37 on 20.7.1897 when described as an engineer optician. Patent of 30.4.1891 [S. Brand, no street name] for "a new plate-holder for photographic cameras". Moved to Rue des Patriotes, 8 on 12.12.1901 and left for Brussels - Ixelles on 30.10.1903. It is unclear who took over day-to-day management after Salvador's departure. One hypothesis, not supported by the Brussels population register, is that the initial "S." in trade directories would stand for "Soeurs", a partnership of the sisters Mathilde and Constance, daughters of Gustave Brand. If substantiated, this would be a rare case where a single initial disguised not only the gender but also the number of individuals running a business.
