Maurice Pierre Léopold. Agricultural engineer and social critic. Calmeyn's book, "Au Congo Belge", Paris, Flammarion, 1912, is a record of two trips made in 1907 and 1908. In it, accounts of hunting expeditions are interspersed with criticism of colonial oppression. Calmeyn carried a Kodak and a larger camera for 13 x 18 cm glass plates. His book is illustrated with 235 halftone prints from his own negatives.
