° 21.2.1877; + 16.6.1947. Egyptologist. Visited Egypt for the first time in the winter of 1900-1901 and took photographs along the way, including at least two views of the Giza pyramid complex and a few of the Karnak temple complex. On his return, Capart gave a presentation to the "Société d'Archéologie de Bruxelles" that was "accompanied by very successful slides" (Annales de la Société d'Archéologie de Bruxelles, vol. 15, 1901, p. 269) and also published an illustrated thirty-page report in the same journal.
After being criticized for his less than perfect photographs, Capart responded in 1905: "I am but an amateur photographer". In his book 'Tout-Ankh-Amon', published in Brussels in 1929 by Vromant & C°, he included an aerial photograph of the site where the pharaoh's tomb would be discovered, taken by Capart himself in 1905. In spring 1909, Capart made his fourth trip to Egypt and returned with no less then 500 photographic plates. His 1912 publication, "Abydos: Le Temple de Séti 1er", is illustrated with 50 of his own photographs.
