Louis Eugène Laurent, ° 2.3.1855; + 2.5.1930. Proto-photojournalist; continuously referred to as an amateur photographer. Reportedly one of the many photographers who photographed the chivalry spectacle the "Grand Tournament" on the Grand' Place in Brussels in 1891 (La Nation, 7.8.1891). A few months later he was tasked with creating a post-mortem portrait of French general and politician Georges Ernest Boulanger (1837-1891) on his deathbed, lit by a magnesium flame (La Nation, 3.10.1891). In April 1894, Chaineux' photographs of the Belgian horses that had just left for the Congo were being exhibited at the central offices of the newspaper "L'Indépendance Belge" (L'Indépendance Belge, 9.4.1894). Subsequently his slide projections were scheduled to be shown during a lesson on feminist legislation by Louis Frank at the "Université Libre de Bruxelles" on 24.4.1895 (L'Indépendance Belge, 10.4.1895).
