Officially Gustaef (according to descendants), ° 4.10.1874; + 9.12.1956. Brother-in-law of Henri Speeckaert (see that name). Originally a baker. "Draughtsman" on CVs. On later advertising card "art and industrial photography since 1895". Following the death of his first wife Emma Speeckaert (° Deinze, 6.8.1873; + Deinze, 17.8.1910), Gustaaf Claerhout married Louisa Lecluyse and the signature on card mounts was altered accordingly to "Claerhout - Lecluyse". Operating at Tolpoortstraat, 18 [= Rue de l'Octroi] from 1919, he remained active through the interwar period and was succeeded by his son Abel (° Deinze, 15.7.1900; + 1988). Studio Claerhout remains active under the management of fourth-generation family members. An exhibition "Studio Claerhout: Kroniek van een fotografengeslacht 1895-...", surveying the studio's history, was held in the "Museum van Deinze en de Leiestreek" in 2013.
