Frans (° Antwerp, 4.9.1860; + Antwerp, 19.6.1933) and Vincent Claes were a pair of commercial agents who founded their agency at this address in 1885. Operators of the "Photographe automate" system (Raders patent), a semi-automatic camera producing tintypes, at the International Exhibition in Antwerp; this was probably their sole initiative in the photographic field. Frans was a prominent antiquarian in Antwerp: he assembled an extensive collection of art and antiquities that opened as a private museum in 1904, and was appointed curator of the two municipal museums "Steen" and "Vleeshuis" in 1911.
