Henri Joseph Dominique, ° 17.4.1873; + 16.4.1932. He married Anne Caroline Ruyssers (° Antwerp, 8.11.1867) in Antwerp on 2.6.1894; his profession was recorded as druggist. Hardware store. Photographic supplies. Climan had previously been registered as a druggist at Rue Carnot, 119 from 1893 onwards but there is no record of any activities relating to photography when he was trading at that address.
1899 * - 1920 > Anvers, Rue du Jésus, 18<99-03> then 23<03-12> or 19<12-20>
Hardware store. Photographic chemicals, plates, cameras. Arrived at this address on 3.3.1899. "Work for amateurs. Lessons in photography. Lanterns and all accessories for projection" [Mendel, 1904]. Member of the photography section of the "Katholieke Kring" in 1900. Committee member of the "Cercle d'études photographiques et scientifiques d'Anvers" in 1900-1914. Collotype at this address from 1906 onwards. Climan made a speciality of postcards of news events and public ceremonies, such as royal visits and local festivities. "Postcards in monochrome and duotone; catalogues and illustrations for publications" (1911). 18 is the only street number recorded in ABP membership lists. Remained at this address throughout the 1920s and was still living at no. 19 when he died. This was an art-nouveau style shop and residence designed by the architect Jacques De Weerdt in 1904 and from which a Climan family member was likely still trading in the late 1930s.
1902 * - 1905 Anvers, Rue de Hollande, 20
Photographic supplies. Studio refounded in 1902 and equipped for photomechanical printing. Also see entry for Climan, [H.] & Ruyssers, [J.].
