Successor: Plumier Alphonse
= Galerie or Passage Saint-Hubert. Dominique Joseph Achille, ° 4.8.1804; + 2.6.1888. Sometimes transcribed Coeult. Daguerreotypist. Originally a metal worker, Coeulte was operating in Paris by 1843 and continued there throughout the 1840s interspersed with frequent stints in Nancy [Meurthe-et-Moselle]. His arrival in Brussels and studio at this address were advertised from May 1849. "He offers the facility to reject portraits that are held to be unacceptable; the plates will be erased immediately. It is a sure means to instill confidence. Portraits at moderate prices, from 8 francs to 20, depending on size" (La Nation, 3.5.1849; ditto, 22.8.1849). Coeulte's one and only recorded stay in Brussels must have been relatively brief. Back in Paris and operating at Boulevard des Filles du Calvaire, 1, Coeulte was arraigned on 17.2.1851 for counterfeiting Elkington-process Daguerreotype plates. He continued to operate in Paris until the early 1870s, then in L'Aigle [Orne].
