Successor: Despret Auguste (at no. 22)
Jacques Emile Hergel, known as E. Cornelisse - Hergel, ° 18.7.1832; + 27.7.1902. His foreigner's file dates from 1865. Lived in Rue Isabelle, 73 from 28.9.1870, moving to this address on 1.8.1874. On the occasion of his wedding in Brussels - Saint-Gilles on 7.11.1874, Hergel was recorded as a photographer living at this address. There was continuity with the Cornelisse studio operating in Brussels, Rue de l'Ecuyer, 38 until 1873, with circumstantial evidence for Hergel being the operator there from c. 1867 and adopting the additional surname Cornelisse for professional purposes. CV dated 14.4.1874 with Rue de l'Ecuyer, 38 covered by a printed slip for Rue Neuve, 22. Hergel was subsequently recorded at Rue Berlaimont, 7 coming from Brussels - Saint-Josse on 19.7.1876.
Hergel registered again at Rue Neuve, 22 on 18.10.1879 when it was still operating as a studio. Hergel, known as Cornelisse - Hergel, continued to trade under the name Cornelisse or E. Cornelisse. CVs until the late 1870s, signed "Cornelisse" jointly at this address and Rotterdam [NL], Wagestraat, the latter studio at that point run by its founder Pierre-Jean Cornelisse(n) (see that name) or a member of his family. Hergel lived elsewhere from 21.5.1881 but returned to no. 86 of this street from 19.11.1885 until 10.10.1889.
