Héliodore André Joseph, known as Héli, ° 2.3.1831; + 24.5.1909. Elder brother of Armand. Arrived from Spa (see Dandoy Frères). "Portraits from cartes de visite to life size. Specialist in copy printing and objets d’art" (advertisements from July until October 1866). A previous estimated end-date of 1874 ca at this address is unsafe and has been revised.

Already active as an itinerant in Roermond [NL] in 1870. A daughter was born in Maastricht [NL] on 11.4.1871. Advertising at this address in September 1871 (Le Courrier de la Meuse, 25.9.1871). In March 1874 Dandoy advertised that he would move his studio to Rue Saint-Jacques, 2361 (close to the place d'Armes) on 1.5.1874 (La Courrier de la Meuse, 21.3.1874), but it is doubtful that the transfer went through.

Transferred his studio from "Place du Marché" to this address according to advertisements in November 1874 (Le Courrier de la Meuse, 7.11.1874) while the change of residence was registered on 2.1.1875. Advertising here until March 1884. He subsequently left for Liège. Member of the ABP from March 1879.

Opening announced in May 1884. Move to Liège recorded by the Antwerp population registry on 9.10.1884.

Transfer to this address on 20.4.1887. Portrait of Félicien Rops in July 1893, used as the basis for an engraving by Adrien De Witte (1862 - 1934) that pleased Rops. In June 1902 it was reported that Dandoy, who was about to retire, had chosen Jean Berger (see that name) as his successor and that his back catalogue of negatives would be transferred to Berger (La Meuse, 24.6.1902). He died at this address. According to his death certificate Dandoy no longer had any occupation. An obituary described him as affable and charming: "Héli Dandoy had for a long time been a leading character in our town [Liège] where he knew almost everybody... He was friends with many artists, particularly the great Félicien Rops, Armand Rassenfosse and numerous other painters and musicians" (La Meuse, 25.5.1909).
