° 14.9.1850; + 21.12.1907. Fair photographer from Denderleeuw, he operated during the winter fair. De Baere was also frequently present at the may fair [Meifoor] in Bruges in the period before 1900. "Aloysius Debaere" was recorded in Ostend as a photographer aged 27 resident in Ghent in July 1878.
A full list of itinerant photographers registered to operate at the Bruges Meifoor, 1865-1900, has been transcribed by Jaak Rau as follows: 1. Benjamin, Frank; 2. Clayne; 3. Clement; 4. Cosman or Cosmans: 5. De Baere, Aloïs; 6. De Bruyne; 7. De Ceuninck (father); 8. De Ceuninck (son); 9. De Jonghe; 10. De Schepper; 11. Dommery; 12. Duhameeuw (father / son); 13. Dulaar, Marie; 14. Elias; 15. Elkan; 16. Enghels, Mme / Mw.; 17. Franckx; 18. Gilles; 19. Hoffmann; 20. Hunsanger; 21. Huisman (- Fresko), (- Wolf), André / David / Edward; 22. Jacobs; 23. Jouin (father / son); 24. Levis, Julien; 25. Leyn; 26. Libot, François; 27. Marrecau (also transcribed Maricot), Eugène / Henri / Jules; 28. Moresco; 29. Roch, Bracco; 30. Samuel, Jacob (or vice-versa); 31. Semeyn, Antoinette / Marie; 32. Tissens, Jean (and son); 33. Van Rymenant; 34. Van Velthoven; 35. Vercambre. The most frequent operators at the fair were De Baere, Hoffmann and Levis.
1904 Maldeghem, Markt
"The brothers A. De Baere have the honour to inform the public that they will remain on the market place in Maldeghem with their studio for a few weeks" ('t Getrouwe Maldeghem, 17 & 24.4.1904). It is possible that these were sons of Aloïs, namely Louis and Louis Leopold (° Ronse, 22.5.1875), who were both recorded as photographers living in Ghent on their father's death certificate. A CAB stamped "Joseph De Baere Photographe, Gand" indicates that another son Joseph Clément (° Bruges, 29.5.1878) might also have been active as a photographer around this time.
