+ 19.8.1869, aged 34. A few brief news reports document a promising and previously unrecorded international career, cut tragically short. "Mr Antoine De Coster, brother of the intelligent and industrious head of our print shop, settled about eighteen months ago in Tehran...His photographic output, of which we have several remarkable specimens before our eyes, has done wonders in the capital of that great empire. ..The Shah of Persia has appointed him to the court and entrusted Mr De Coster to give the crown prince lessons in photography and drawing" (L'Emancipation, 12.4.1868). "We have just learnt that our compatriot has been decorated with the Order of the Lion and the Sun in reward for his endeavours. ... [He] is preparing a large album of views of Persia intended for King Leopold II" (Journal de Bruxelles, 19.6.1869). "Mr Antoine Decoster...has died of cholera in Tehran, capital of the Persian empire. Through his spirit of enterprise, talent and vigour, Mr Decoster had made a good position for himself in Tehran, where he had created a large photographic establishment" (L'Emancipation, 24.9.1869).
