Dominicus Robertus known as Albert, ° 7.1.1858; + 5.4.1918. Photographer and upholsterer. At his wedding in Dendermonde in February 1885 to Sophia Maria Everaert (° Dendermonde, 18.5.1851), recorded as a decorator living in Dendermonde. On CV, c. 1887, "carbon photography" and a medal awarded to E. De Gendt in 1878-79, a municipal prize medal from when he was a student at the "Académie Royale des Beaux Arts" in Dendermonde. An extra storey was added to the building at no. 35 in 1892 to accommodate the photography studio. The façade was reconstructed in 1902. It burned to the ground during the German offensive in September 1914. De Gendt was forced to operate out of makeshift premises, a wooden hut, throughout World War I and until his death in April 1918.
