Advertised his return on 26.4.1861, after living many years in Paris as a painter-decorator and a photographer on glass, paper, and cloth. Painter "in fresco and decoration".

Patent of 15.2.1863 for "an improvement in the photographic art" [combining portraits or groups as large as can be taken with lenses, and printing them consecutively on paper]. Photo-reportage on the explosion of the Tolhuis mines on 20.5.1864.

"Patented for groups". At this address photographed members of the Belgian expeditionary corps leaving for Mexico; they left Belgium from October 1864 onwards.

Moved to this address on 16.11.1880. Patent of 31.1.1881 for "a system for designing pictures by electric light" [camera fitted with plate holder for pictures]. Several of De Laetre's daughters were also recorded as photographers at this address and must have assisted in their father's studio. Maria Francisca De Lattre (° Ghent, 26.10.1844) was recorded as a photographer in the 1881 and 1891 population registers while her younger sister Mathildis Josepha De Lattre (° Ghent, 16.10.1847; + Melle, 5.1.1918) was recorded as photographer in the 1881 and 1901 population registers. Louis' eventual successor Juliette (see that name) was first recorded as a photographer in the 1891 population register.
