René Victor, ° 16.5.1848; + 17.3.1911. Renier [sic] De Man was already recorded in Brussels as a photographer in February 1871. Arrived from Brussels - Ixelles, Rue Longue Vie, 15 in August 1875 and formed a partnership with Crosset at this address. He operated alone from March 1879 at the latest. Patent of 15.5.1883 for "a photographic camera" [spy camera for taking pictures of a person in a moderately lit room]. The camera was used by the Verviers police force during interrogations. "Once the photograph is taken and copied, it is a hundred times better than any police report in the world" (L'Etoile belge, 20.5.1883). Left for Brussels - Saint-Josse in July 1889.
