Fernand Alexandre Robert, ° 22.9.1863; + 28.4.1915. Sometimes spelled "Demeuse". Brother of Robert De Meuse. Doctor of natural science and explorer. Travelled through the Belgian Congo from 1886 on. In 1888, exploration of Kasai, Mfini, and lake Léopold II. Took 280 negatives of the Congo for the "Compagnie du Congo pour le Commerce et l'Industrie". He returned to Belgium in July 1889, then left again in 1890 until August 1893. His photographs were shown in Ghent and at the "Cercle artistique et littéraire" in Brussels in 1890. The negatives were enlarged by Alexandre. De Meuse emphasized the picturesque aspects of the Congo and enjoyed great popularity among the readership of "Le Congo Illustré".
