° 26.7.1877; + 13.10.1944. Chemist. Photographic cameras and supplies. Also described as a photographer in the 1890-1900 population register. Initial "D." in the 1897 Mertens directory and later; sometimes "A. & D. de Roos" i.e., collaboration with his father Abraham (° Oirschot [NL], 27.8.1836; + Antwerp, 8.9.1913), a manufacturing optician. "Agency for The Philadelphia Chemical Company, papers, plates, developers..." [Mendel, 1902]. Edited the periodical "Licht!", 1902-1903, the first Belgian photographic magazine published in Dutch. Co-author, with S. Hereyns and others, of "Licht: Bespekingen over Fotografie en aanverwante Wetenschappen" and its French edition "Vade-Mecum de Photographie", Brussels, 1905, based on articles published in the magazine. De Roos was described as a chemist at his wedding in Antwerp on 8.10.1918. The optics side of the business continued to advertise as "A. de Roos" at this address throughout the 1920s.
