Arthur Joseph Edouard, ° 6.11.1878; + 26.11.1954. Eldest son of Philibert (Albert) De Souter and a second-generation photographer. He started his career as an apprentice with Henri Becker in Brussels - Molenbeek and Antwerp before resettling in Bruges in 1900 and operating with his father (see relevant entry). He was then recorded as a photographer in Bruges at his wedding there on 26.11.1902. Moved to this address from Mariastraat, 14 [Rue Notre-Dame], the parental home and studio, on 13.6.1904, and was recorded as a "portrait maker" at this address at the birth of a daughter on 7.10.1905. Consistently initial "D." in directories.
It would appear that Arthur continued to operate in conjunction with his father and we have not yet encountered photographs bearing Arthur's credit at this address. In the interwar years, he continued to operate in Mariastraat (corner Pijperstraatje) and until at least 1952, earning the title of doyen of Bruges photographers.
