Maurice François Adolphe Baeckeroot, known as De Waele, ° 3.8.1842; + 8.4.1865. His death certificate records him as a photographer who died at no. 5 of this street. The document was signed by "François" Xavier Louis Dewaele (° Hondschoote [Nord, F], 27.7.1813; + Dunkirk [Nord, F], 10.1.1885), who was recorded as a painter living in Ostend and had also signed Maurice's birth certificate. A CV by De Waele, almost certainly a self portrait, depicts a man seated on a chair before a sign reading "Etablissement Photographique Maurice De Waele, Ostende", with the floor and nearby table littered with what appear to be photographic equipment and supplies.
