Railway engineer. Recorded construction of the railway as well as photographing all things Chinese - people, places, ceremonies, etc. He spent a second period in China from 1919 to 1927. On his return to Belgium, he remained an enthusiastic photographer and member of the "Photo Club Namurois". The "Musée de la Photographie" in Charleroi created an exhibition in 2009-2010 comprising 60 images selected and reprinted from Derenne's archives deposited at the museum by his family.
