° 13.8.1868; + 5.12.1953. Lawyer. Purchased his first camera in 1881. Photographed in Louvain where he was a law student between 1884 and 1891. First stereo views in 1886. X-rays in 1896, exhibited in Tournai amongst a display of 58 of his prints in August 1896. First trichromatic photographs in 1898. Photographs of trains between 1885 and 1933. Photographs taken by kite from 1910. Urban views (trips around Europe), boats, portraits, crafts. Member of the Ghent section of the ABP. Desclée's lifetime production has been estimated at 7 000 negatives. A collection of 1331 negatives is held by the "Médiathèque de l'architecture et du patrimoine" in Charenton-le-Pont [F]. A further 496 negatives of works of art are held at the Royal Institute for Cultural Heritage (KIK-IRPA) in Brussels.
