Jean François Armand, ° 26.8.1858. Accountant. The Detaille brothers, Armand and Hubert, undertook joint research on exposure times and shutters. They were granted a patent on 16.8.1887 for "a drop shutter for instant photography". In 1889 they studied the properties of hydroquinone, and in 1890 the toning of transparencies by sodium hydrosulphite and by alum. In addition to their technical research the Detaille brothers were distinguished artistic photographers. Prizewinners of competitions held by the "Bulletin de l'ABP" in 1886, 1888, and 1889.
