Léopold Joseph, ° 24.6.1833. Recorded as a tradesman domiciled in Couillet on the birth there of his daughter Jeanne in May 1870. Father of Eugène, Jeanne and Laure Deton, all of whom would follow their father's adoptive occupation. Deton operated as a photographer in Lille [F], Rue Nationale, 40 in the late 1880s and early 1890s. Recorded as a photographer domiciled in Lille [F] on 29.1.1894 at the occasion of the wedding of his daughter Laure Léonie Félicie (° Couillet, 12.2.1864; + Châtelet, May 1936) in Lille [F] to François Mathé (° Lormes [Nièvre, F], 6.12.1871; + Châtelet, August 1933). Both the bride and the groom were recorded as photographers. There might be a connection with Henri Mathé (see that name). Léopold was still recorded as a photographer, domiciled in Mons, in April 1904. He predeceased his wife, who died in May 1917. Charles Galladé was likely an operator at this address prior to starting his own studio in 1893.
