De Sitter must have been active as a photographer in Ghent several years prior to 1901, because a photograph dated 17.9.1898 bears a mark on the front reading "L. Desitter Peint.-Photog. Gand". Recorded as a photographer living in Ghent at the occasion of his wedding there to Maria Isabelle Rigaux (° Ghent - Ledeberg, 5.6.1859) on 29.11.1902.
