Louis Joseph, ° 4.3.1811; + 13.10.1893. Sometimes spelled "Duchatel". From July 1855 he exhibited in Tournai, in Delmée’s shop window, Rue des Puits l'Eau. In October 1855, he exhibited in Rue de Paris on Dubois Dumoutié’s premises. He moved his studio to Rue des Campeaux in May 1856, but kept Quai Saint-Brice as his private address. Appointed teacher of penmanship at the "Athenée royal" in March 1858, an occupation he exercised in parallel with that of photographer until October 1861. In September 1861, Duchâtel opened a newly equipped studio at this address on the plan of Ghémar’s studio, the same year he marketed his first cartes de visite. Two of his views were published in photolithography by Simonau & Toovey in a book by his brother-in-law A.F.J. Bozière, "Tournai ancien et moderne", Tournai, 1864. Duchâtel advertised at Quai Saint-Brice until the end of August 1873, after which he appears to have retired and lived as a person of independent means.
1856 * - 1861 Tournai, Rue des Campeaux, 9
Advertisements at this address on 12.8.1857 and 12.5.1861, which appears to have been Duchâtel's actual studio throughout this period. Despite his re-installation in Quai Saint-Brice, Rue des Campeaux was listed in the Mertens directories until 1875.
