Isidore Jacques, ° 15.5.1844; + 16.4.1923. Diplomat who travelled extensively and displayed an especial interest in Japan. Eggermont’s narrative "Voyage autour du globe. Japon", Paris, 1900, is illustrated with wood engravings, many from photographs "taken from chance encounters along the way" (La Patrie, 4.2.1901). He may already have taken photographs during an earlier posting to Japan in 1876-1877. Eggermont acquired the Château de Leignon in 1890 that he then had transformed in Flemish neo-gothic style by the Ghent-based architect Auguste Van Assche and which remained his residence for the rest of his life.
