François Marie Louis Alexandre Gobinet de Villecholle, known as Franck, ° 21.12.1816; + 16.1.1906. French photographer, member of the "Société française de Photographie". Active in Paris, 15 Place de la Bourse, from 1857 until 1863 and then Rue Vivienne, 18, from 1860 until 1872. He headed one of the most renowned portrait studios. Donated work to the "Société Archéologique de Namur", which owns a view of the "Porte de Fer", a view of the "Porte de Gravière" with the dry stamp of the photographer, and a view of the Sambre mill (which burnt down in February 1865). Amand Gilles (- Ledoux) from Namur is said to have been his pupil. In March 1866, François Gilles, brother of Armand, sold the "Album contemporain" by Justin Lallier, containing 300 portraits of celebrities photographed by Franck. His photographs of a model of the church of Notre-Dame in Namur were published in the "Annales de la Société Archéologique de Namur" in 1875-1876. Victor Hugo dedicated two albumen prints signed by Franck, views of the abbey ruins at Villers-la-Ville, to his son during a visit there on 13.8.1867.
